Five years now. Wow. A digital life span of being born and raised, of being inspired and encouraged. Thinking back of those modest beginnings (my first travel posts about the Baltic Sea Coast in Germany, as well as Creative Travel in Thailand!) all the way to having almost 1.200 articles published now, I do admit to feeling just a little proud. And happy, really.
It is not easy to always push for continuous creativity, what with life unfolding in ways we cannot, at times, foresee nor prepare for. The overall balance is, however, strikingly positive. I would hardly be where I am today, speaking seven (!) languages fluently and finding huge amounts of fulfilment both as a person as well as in business, if it had not been for my travel blog or the subsequent publication of my first book, “The Creative Traveler’s Handbook”. This feeling of gratitude, my dear readers, is what I would like to share with you today: Let us celebrate on the occasion of my blog’s birthday with a chance to win a copy of my book yet again!

… having read this post carefully up until now, that everything started way back in 2012 with a post about Thailand? Well. Do apologise the simplicity of my writing back then (everybody has to start from somewhere, right?). But looking at my entire travel category about Thailand, I am sure it is easy to answer the first question here: Have I, or have I not, been riding an elephant while visiting Thailand …?
Second, 2013. Including a most memorable trip to South America. For over six weeks, I get to travel in the highlands of Chile & Argentina, carried away by the sheer beauty of Torres del Paine national park and finding myself utterly happy, exploring the world hiking.
My question for you: What is the name of the southern-most town in the world, which I have been able to visit as part of my South America trip (and which, also during summer, does look no different than … this)?
2014, then, brings us back to Europe, igniting a passion for Portugal I have not known to exist on my travels before. Starting with an invitation to join a music festival in Porto, and meeting the wonderful people of this country, I could not resist but fall in love truly and deeply. Meaning that .. I became fluent in Portuguese “over the summer”, surprising everybody upon returning just ahead of my #CreativElenaRTW trip. Portugal, I now know, has some kind of a soul’s connection with me, a place I feel I can always return to, now and in the future.
So what is the name of my dear dear friend there ever since, to the degree that we even decided, a year later, to walk the entire length of the Portuguese Way of Saint James together ..?
2015 – let’s stay on the Iberian peninsula, where once again, I have declared a very special region my next travel home … the most loyal followers & friends among you will likely know immediately what (and who) I’m talking about.
So where on Earth is this particular piece of land that sits at the north-eastern tip of Spain, at the foothills of the Pyrenees, and which I have talked about countless times before …?
Finally, last but not least, 2016. This past year has been all about a most magical trip to Canada, initially to present my book in Toronto together with my publishers, only to find myself head over heels in love .. again. “Canada, it’s like New Zealand in North America“, I keep saying, dreaming about the warmth and love of people I have found – and especially in this one, particular place there.
What is the name of the place I am referring to, literally one of the “most beautiful needles in the haystack” of the second largest country on Earth?
2017 … well, it has me continue on my journeys, projects and ideas for the future. What will the next five years bring, I wonder? Honestly, I don’t know. What I am sure of, however, is that they will bring me many more exciting twists & turns !!
