A visit to the spa during summer? Definitely! This being my third time visiting Hotel Therme Laa, in the upper Weinviertel region of Lower Austria, I feel that I am slowly becoming a regular here.
Two years ago, my husband and I came here for the first time. It was autumn, and we enjoyed a kids-free trip to the so-called Silent Spa at Hotel Therme Laa: an absolute wellness dream that I can only recommend for anyone over 16!
A year later, in winter, we came with the whole family (children, parents, grandparents). The hotel and Therme Laa have a lot to offer families, especially those travelling with very young children.
My tip: I recommend travelling to and from the hotel by public transport via Vienna (read more about it here: Short Trip with the family to Hotel Therme Laa). The trains run often, stop in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, and you can arrive and depart in a relaxed manner. It’s especially convenient after a spa holiday, when you’re really tired from the warm thermal water!
Hotel Therme Laa: Rooms, breakfast & dinner.
When my friend Lisi and I arrive in Laa with my little boys, we first check into our family room at the hotel. The location opposite the hotel spa promises peace, only interrupted by the little ones’ playtime. Poysecco and Grüner Veltliner from the Weinviertel region are included in the minibar, and the looks on our faces are unmistakable: we’ll share them on the balcony in the evening when the kids are asleep!
Speaking of travelling with (young) children: Sometimes, I do have reservations about checking into a fine four-star hotel like Hotel Therme Laa with such young kids (only four and one and a half years old). Anyone who has or knows small children knows that pretty much anything can happen, any time!
So it’s really nice to see that families with small children are catered for with great care. An access-all-areas key is available at the reception desk for easy navigation from the hotel to all areas of the spa with a stroller or buggy. During dinner, families are “strategically placed together”. Pencils, sheets, play cups, and baby seats are already provided. Staff is very friendly (and patient!), the food exceptionally good. Vegetarian, vegan, regional, kid-friendly, there really is something for everyone here.
Check this out.
Offers for families: “Familienoase”, Kinderland & baby – toddler thermal pools.
During the day, Therme Laa basically offers everything you need for a holiday with (young) children. On the one hand, there is the possibility to reserve your spot in the so-called “Familienoase” (family oasis). It’s an ideal retreat from the public thermal pools. You will find it just above the toddler pool and slide, complete with seating, kettle, microwave and play area.
On the other hand, Therme Laa offers a really great play area right next to said family oasis. This so-called Kinderland is freely accessible to all spa visitors. Here you can find kids’ entertainment in the form of games, painting or handicrafts, and above all: A LOT OF TOYS! For hours, my boys just wanted to be here, Liam even distracted by the tempting slide, that’s how much he likes the Kinderland!
When we do take to the pools, we find two large, shallow pools for babies and toddlers, one indoor, one outdoor. A huge sandpit has been built under the outdoor slide, suitable for everything that kids love. Honestly, an ideal place to feel good, a place that also allows my friend Lisi and I many moments of uninterrupted chat and enjoyment!
Summer at the spa: Highly recommended!
My conclusion about a spa trip during summer: Really nice. Anyone who thinks a thermal spa is only for autumn or winter travels will find that more is possible. Especially if like us, you travel with young children. Pure summer pleasure …
