Take five days of rest and retreat, mix it with the inspiring atmosphere of a view across a vast lake, add your very own pool and sundeck, garnish it with the taste of fresh strawberries, pizza, pasta, vino & cappuccino, and serve it with the aroma of a one thousand year old olive grove. My preferred recipe for a successful “writer’s retreat“, I must say!
After having finished writing my first book three years ago in the charming south of France, I have now decided to remain in Italy after my Italian language course in Rome, and look for a countryside escape near Perugia, at Lago Trasimeno in Umbria, Central Italy.
Once again, the writer’s flow has taken hold of me. Besides being passionate about “creative travel“, I have now started writing a book about yet another topic very dear to me.
“Learning & Living Languages”. Being fluent in seven of them, now self-employed for just as many years, and with a background of nearly fifteen years as a permanent globe trotter, it’s about time I dedicated it a book.
This book, which will appear as an eBook in cooperation with the international language school EF, includes my very best tips about learning a new language, and how to maintain your languages skills even during your everyday life. Everything my world travels, cultural experiences, and practical insights around the world have ever taught me. I am also sharing all of my personal stories on how I did indeed learn all of the languages I currently speak: How did I manage to become fluent in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, and Italian (with German as my mother tongue … was it really just down to six years of Latin at school 😉 ?
What are the keys to unlocking the potential of learning, and keeping up, languages?
Answers to questions such as these are to be found throughout the entire eBook. I have also asked my international friends and families for quotes; as there are of course many more languages to learn than “just my Roman languages” here! Stay tuned to my progress; I do actually plan to provide an English version to the original German one, too!
